Highlights of Board of Directors’ January Meeting

Among other actions at its January 25, 2006 meeting, the ASCPA Board of Directors reviewed the following:

 

Perspective for CPAs in Arizona:Don Henninger, publisher of The Business Journal shared insights and the future outlook of Arizona’s economy with the Board.

 

Legislative Update:Kevin DeMenna, the Society’s legislative liaison spoke to the Board about the various bills currently before Arizona’s legislature this year.He added that the legislature looks to the Society for guidance and clarification on language within tax and accounting bills.

 

Strategic Plan Update:Cindie Hubiak stated that most of the Society’s strategic initiatives have been completed and that the remaining should be met.She also informed the Board that the Society is working with various organizations to help in amending current language regarding California’s practice privilege.

 

Strategic Planning Actions:The board approved a new vision for the ASCPA and changed one of its values.The new vision is “Membership in the ASCPA is essential to all CPAs in Arizona.”The re-worded value is “Relationships are a way we excel.”

 

CPA Foundation Update:Amber Benson spoke on the Foundation’s various activities.She announced that the Foundation is creating a new program to increase high school students’ understanding of the accounting profession.

 

2006-2007 Measurement Approval:The board approved the Society’s measurements for the next fiscal year.

 

AICPA Update:AICPA board member, Paula Thomas, gave an update on AICPA activities and talked with the board about issues impacting the profession.
