CPA Makes a Connection to Family and Health Through the Power of Music

Three and a half years ago, CPA Kevin Yeanoplos, suffered a debilitating stroke. Unable to move one side of his body, the stroke proved to be a life-changing event — one he recovered from, and credits his family and his love of music.

“After my stroke, my daughter brought my favorite Al Green CD to the hospital and for a time, all I could do was move my one toe to the music,” says Yeanoplos. “When you lay in a hospital bed and can’t do even simple, everyday things, you tend to prioritize your life. I don’t take things for granted.”

“I learned to play the guitar when I was 19 to ‘impress the chicks,’” laughs Yeanoplos, who composes music and plays the acoustic guitar. “Before the stroke, I had gotten away from playing, but now I try to find time to play everyday.”

He also believes music has helped him develop a closer relationship to his four children, particularly his 17-year-old son, Seth. “My son and I are BIG music fans and go to a lot of concerts together. It’s been a wonderful way for a 17-year-old-and a 49-year-old to have some commonality. ” says Yeanoplos.

Yeanoplos, who is an avid listener of the radio station 92.9 KWMT (The Mountain), has had the opportunity to meet several famous musicians, thanks in part to the station. These bands include the Goo Goo Dolls, Five for Fighting and B.B. King.

“The station came on the air about the time of my stroke and it is the only station I listen to,” says Yeanoplos, who has become friends with the station manager and DJs there.

In fact, station members were instrumental in arranging for Yeanoplos to meet members of Five for Fighting, a group whose song, “100 Years,” had deep meaning for him during his recovery from the stroke.
