As a new series offered by the Arizona Society of CPAs, we invite you to join this elite group of tax professionals at their Saturday CPE/CLE sessions (eight times per year).

Curtis Black is a tax professional, CPA with MBA, specializing in United States Tax (over 30 years experience) and United States International Tax (15 years experience). He has worked internationally, in the US International Tax area, with one of the largest Chartered Accounting firms in Canada, heading up the Corporate US and International Tax Departments as the Principal of US and Cross Border Tax. He was a previous President and Managing Shareholder of Henderson and Black & Co the 13th largest CPA firm in New Mexico. Deloitte Big Four and other national CPA firm tax experience. Additional experience includes CFO and Controller positions, where he was responsible for the treasury function and formulated and communicated tax and treasury policies to company executive management and Board of Directors. He has experienced SOX & SEC, ASC 740 Deferred Taxes for company financial audits, including preparation of tax provision for SEC 10Q and 10K filings. His background includes significant manufacturing experience with knowledge of tax manufacturing UNICAP rules, as well as experience with entertainment, high tech, solar energy, medical, law firm, real estate and retail industries.
Curtis has active CPA licensing in two states - Arizona and New Mexico.
His firm location is the Scottsdale (Gainey Ranch) area.

Derdenger, Patrick

Pat Derdenger advises businesses across industry sectors on federal, state, and local tax law. With more than four decades of experience in tax law, Pat has been recognized as a certified tax law specialist by the Arizona State Bar, and in 2017 received the Arizona State Bar’s “Top Tax Attorney” award.

In his extensive state and local tax practice, Pat advises businesses on corporate and individual income, multistate sales and use, and property tax matters, and counsels them on the state and local tax implications of their business transactions. He also represents clients in related litigation matters, from audits and appeals through various administrative states, as well as in federal and state courts and courts of appeals, and the U.S. Tax Court. He has obtained private tax rulings for clients on state and local tax issues and helped draft state tax legislation for clients and industry groups. Pat also advises businesses on the tax implications of various economic incentives and benefits of relocating to and operating in Arizona. In addition, he frequently represents construction industry and homebuilder clients on tax issues related to maintenance, repair, replacement, alteration (MRRA) and modification projects in Arizona.

Pat also counsels clients on federal income and employment tax matters, independent contractor/employee tax issues, responsible officer penalties, information return filing penalties, and federal and state excise taxes, and represents them in related litigation matters. Clients also turn to him for advice on constitutional issues, including the federal commerce clause, due process clause, and equal protection clause.

Pat is a frequent lecturer on state and local tax subjects to various professional audiences and continuing education programs, and he leads Steptoe’s annual construction industry tax conference.

Ira S. Feldman, CPA, CVA, AEP, is president of FELCO Business Services, Inc. He was a founding partner in Toback CPAs PC, one of Arizona's largest local CPA firms (sold in 2000 to a national CPA firm), where he provided business and tax counseling for more than 35 years. Feldman has a long history as an advocate for small business. He has been a delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business twice, founded the Arizona Small Business United and served as Director and President of the Arizona Small Business Association. As a Certified Valuation Analyst, a Certified Estate Planner and a CPA, Feldman continues to provide services for clients in Arizona. He serves as Chairman of the Phoenix Tax Workshop and is editor of the Arizona Tax Guides.
