Legislative and Accountancy Board Update – June 2018

This month’s update includes information about Senator Fann speaking at the ASCPA’s Leadership Day, an update on this month’s Accountancy Board meeting, including Board/committee appointments and the upcoming ASCPA PAC report.

Senator Karen Fann Speaks at ASCPA Leadership Day
Karen Fann (R) – LD 1, spoke at ASCPA’s Leadership Day earlier this month. District 1 covers 8,000 square smiles throughout Yavapai County and portions of Maricopa County and Senator Fann resides in Prescott. She currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Finance Committee. Ellen Carpenter, CPA and north central chapter president, talked with Senator Fann at lunch about issues impacting CPAs and shared how she and her employer, Dorn Homes, engages in the community. You can view our Facebook Live session of Senator Fann’s remarks where she provides insights on the impact of the Red for Ed movement on the budget and shares her opposition to a services tax. ASCPA leaders encouraged Senator Fann to address federal income tax conformity as quickly as possible in the 2019 legislative session.

Accountancy Board

Governor Ducey appointed Bruce David Beach, CPA, and Larry C. Schafer, Esq., to the Board. Bruce replaces LeRoy M. Gainter, CPA, whose five year term expires July 3, 2018. Larry will fill the open public member position. Effective July 2018, new Board officers are: Julie S. Klewer, CPA, President; William C. Heimerdinger, CPA, Secretary; and Giselle C. Alexander, CPA, Esq., Treasurer.

The Board appointed Anne Cornelius, CPA, and Josef L. Jatzkewitz, CPA, to the Board’s Continuing Professional Education Advisory Committee and Stephen J. Rodis, CPA, to the Board’s Tax Advisory Committee. Please thank all of these individuals for their significant service to Arizona, in addition to the many others who volunteer in other ways.
