This month’s update includes information about our Capitol Hill visits, Majority Leader Gray speaking at Leadership Day, members appointed to the Financial Literacy Task Force, federal income tax conformity passing, CPA license renewal due date and the ASCPA PAC report planned for release in September.
Capitol Hill Visits
Several Society members met with Senator Kyrsten Sinema, Congressman Ruben Gallego and Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick during visits to their offices in Washington, D.C. We also met with staff in seven other offices. Special thanks to Mike Allen, Anita Baker, Rob Dubberly, Cindie Hubiak, Lisa Johnston, Lisa Kelly, David Walser and Jared Van Arsdale for attending these important meetings.
On a related note, we appreciate Jared Van Arsdale and Ed Zollars for assisting Senator Sinema’s policy advisor with some tax questions earlier this month.
Senator Rick Gray Speaks at ASCPA Leadership Day
Rick Gray (R) – LD 21, spoke at ASCPA’s Leadership Day earlier this month. District 21 covers Peoria, Sun City, El Mirage, Surprise and Youngtown and Senator Gray resides in North Phoenix. He is currently the Senate Majority Leader and Chair of the Senate Ethics Committee. You can view our Facebook Live session of Senator Gray’s remarks where he provides insights on Arizona’s economic changes, growth in the state’s economy over the last few years, some of the challenges surrounding income tax conformity and his sponsorship of legislation signed by the governor to repeal mandatory auditor rotation for school districts.
Members Appointed to Financial Literacy Task Force
The Society worked with Arizona Treasurer Kimberly Yee to assist her in appointing CPAs to a Financial Literacy Task Force. Treasurer Yee, who has been a strong advocate of increasing financial literacy in Arizona, appointed Michael T. Allen, CPA and Curt Krizan, CPA to this important task force. We posted the final Operation Conformity update on our Connect site (formerly known as the listserv). During the legislative session, we posted 45 updates! Thanks to Ed Zollars for watching Arizona Capitol Television on Memorial Day to assist members in understanding the actions taken by the House and Senate and to our lobbyists, DeMenna Public Affairs, for working long hours, especially during the final weeks of the session.
CPA License Renewal Due Date
As a reminder, Arizona CPA licenses must be renewed on the last business day of the month. For this month, it is June 28 (not the 30th). Be sure to renew on time!
