Alexandra Devendra, Aligned Law
Alix is the founder of Aligned Law, a Portland-based law firm serving purpose-driven businesses. She was inspired to start the firm when she realized that innovative and heart-centered entrepreneurs need lawyers who understand the new ways of doing business. Alix has served clients in many different capacities including advising start-ups on business formation, negotiating purchases and sales, and counseling clients in conflict.
Alix’s many volunteer activities include serving on the steering circles of the Cooperative Professionals Guild and the Oregon New Economy Project, as well as the Public Service Committee of the Multnomah Bar Association.
Prior to starting Aligned Law, Alix practiced corporate employment law and complex commercial litigation at Nixon Peabody, a Global 100 law firm. She graduated first in her class from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and holds a degree in French from Pomona College.
Outside of work Alix enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, discovering new playgrounds to explore—often followed by a trip to Salt & Straw!
Brett Heeger, Gundzik Gundzik Heeger LLP
Brett Heeger focuses on transactional corporate and securities matters with a passion for community economic development and social enterprise. He supports a wide range of client companies, leveraging legal tools to support all of their goals: from profit and growth, to impact and inclusion. Brett’s clients come from a range of industries, from food and tech, to real estate, consulting, and financial services.
Brett has substantial experience leading clients through the process of planning for and bringing investment into their companies. From designing and managing friends and family rounds, direct public offerings (DPOs), navigating Regulation A+ and public company compliance, to negotiating venture investments and exit opportunities, Brett prides himself on his ability to work with clients to find the right investment tools and opportunities to position their business for success.
Brett also leads the firm’s social enterprise and worker-owned cooperative efforts in Southern California. He has represented multiple cooperatives and members, and regularly presents and advises on legal matters for new and existing co-ops and social-impact minded businesses in Los Angeles. In law school, he co-founded the Community Enterprise Project, a clinical program where students engage in transactional law projects in support of under-served communities across Boston. From 2012 – 2014, Brett led projects and case teams in areas such as not-for-profit organization governance, food truck permitting and development, and urban agriculture.
Brett lives in Los Angeles with his partner, their three children, and their mostly good dog.
Chris Wingard, Kleinbard LLC
Chris is an associate in Kleinbard’s Business & Finance Practice. He advises corporations, shareholders, directors and employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) trustees on a wide variety of ESOP-related issues. He provides guidance regarding ESOP transactions, corporate governance, business succession planning, ESOP plan design and ongoing ESOP compliance.
He has experience representing middle market corporate clients across a wide range of industries, including engineering, manufacturing, construction and professional services.
Prior to joining Kleinbard, Chris was an associate in an ESOP legal practice based in the greater Philadelphia area.
Chris is a graduate of Boston University, where he earned his JD and MBA, with honors. During his time in law school, he also counseled startups from BU and MIT on various corporate and IP matters.
