Overview

For over 60 years, the Phoenix Tax Workshop has brought together a community of tax experts to educate fellow tax professionals on the latest developments in federal, state and local taxes.

This workshop's agenda:

  • Discussion of Current Developments. Current tax issues, recent significant tax and business events, and practitioner comments will be reviewed and discussed.
  • Developing an Informed and Lasting Long-term Care Protection Strategy. Carrie Hall will discuss how clients can develop a strategy for long-term care that can help them be prepared for any future care needs.
  • Guiding Clients Through Transaction Privilege Tax/Sales Tax. Former AZDoR attorney Ida Araya will provide a refresher on the process of registering and filing transaction privilege tax returns in Arizona, including the JT-1, and TPT classifications. She will also touch on the impacts of Wayfair in nexus determination, and help you understand how to source transactions to help you guide clients with multi-jurisdictional businesses.
  • Transforming Balance Sheets with IRA Tax Planning. It’s commonplace for high-net-worth individuals to have a $1 million+ pre-tax IRA, resulting in significant deferred tax liabilities. This presentation will explore three case studies showing how methodical tax planning with Roth conversions can diffuse that tax liability, resulting in significant lifetime tax savings and more efficient wealth transfer to the next generation.
