David McGuire, McGuire Sponsel
David McGuire is a leading expert on cost segregation, fixed assets and depreciation law and a co-founder of McGuire Sponsel. He has reviewed real estate portfolios ranging in size from six-figure acquisition costs to billions of dollars in value and has provided cost segregation services for companies in a wide variety of industries. While serving in consulting and management roles with Big Four accounting firms, he acquired a thorough understanding of the Internal Revenue Code’s depreciation provisions. He has also shared his expertise in depreciation techniques and practices through speaking engagements and workshops for industry groups and accounting firms, including the American Bar Association and multiple CPA Real Estate groups. McGuire continues to grow McGuire Sponsel’s national presence in cost segregation and depreciation. He is the primary resource for alliance firms in regards to how tax law affects depreciation. His knowledge in determining asset costs and classifications has held up against IRS scrutiny and has built the firm into a trusted industry resource. McGuire’s expertise in depreciation extends beyond the engineering portion of a study. He is often called on to consult in other areas including bonus depreciation and the effects of depreciation on complex transactions, such as Step Up in Basis, Section 108, and Passive Loss Limitations. McGuire is a recognized expert in areas such as 179D and Alternative Energy Tax Credit Consulting. McGuire earned a degree in civil engineering from the University of Notre Dame with a concentration in structural design.
Ethan Russman, MBA, CFP, CYNA 1031 Advisors
CYNA 1031 Advisors promotes investment advisory and financial planning solutions focused on tax-efficient and tax-deferred investment strategies, through its relationship with Emerson Equity LLC. CYNA specializes in collaborating with clients who own Real Estate as an investment or through their business holdings and who may require deferral on the tax implications upon the sale of their property. Ethan Russman, CFP® has worked and consulted for an investment sponsor, financial planning firms and family offices as it pertains to alternative investment solutions. In 2006, he started working at Cole Capital, which was an early adopter and provider of the Delaware Statutory Trust structure which allows investors access to institutional quality 1031 solutions. Before CYNA, Ethan spent nine years at Cole Capital, a former commercial real estate investment firm headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. Among his many duties, Ethan was the Vice President of Product Management from the inception to the public listing of Cole Credit Property Trust III, Inc. (“CCPT III”), a publicly registered, non-listed real estate investment trust (“REIT”), which owned and operated a diversified portfolio of core commercial real estate investments and had approximately $7 billion in assets under management when it was listed on the NYSE in July 2013 and changed its name to Cole Real Estate Investments (“Cole”). Ethan is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and has experience in wealth management collaborating with individual clients, families and business owners on their tax planning strategies, wealth and preservation strategies, investment management, and cash flow budgeting. He earned his Bachelor of Science in marketing from Duquesne University and subsequently obtained his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the John F. Donahue Graduate School of Business at Duquesne University.
Jakob Ivar Klein, CPA, Wallace, Plese + Dreher, LLP
Jakob I. Klein, CPA is a Tax Manager with Wallace Plese + Dreher. He has nearly ten years of combined industry and public accounting experience. He provides tax and consulting services to individuals, partnerships, S corporations, and estates and trusts throughout Arizona. As part of the Firm’s estate and trust tax team, he consults with individuals and business owners about estate planning, estate administration, wealth transfer and gift planning, charitable giving and appropriate mechanisms. He actively participates with the Central Estate Planning Council and Valley Estate Planners. Jake earned his Bachelor of Science, Accountancy, from Northern Arizona University, and holds an Arizona certified public accountant license.
